Open Classroom

It was wonderful to welcome parents and family members into the school for our open classrooms on Tuesday afternoon.  Students were very excited to show their workbooks and share their learning.  The BBQ area was buzzing with chatter!  All the nice warm sausages were snapped up and eaten on the cold rainy afternoon, thank you to the cooking crew!  To all those family members who were able to come to our open afternoon, thank you.  Please know that if you were unable to make it, you are most welcome to speak to class teachers and pop in to view student work at any time.

Major Sports Exchange

Congratulations to the following students who were selected from squad trainings in their respective sports to represent our region.  Netball - Annabelle Ives and Sophie McQueen, Soccer - Salomi Alexiou, Football - Benji Langley and Hockey - Tom Payne and Kiera Collins.  We hope the weather was kind and you had a great time!

Eisteddfod

2_3_4_Choir.jpeg

Devonport Primary entered two choirs in the Eisteddfod last week as well as our school band.  Our choirs both came second in their respective categories with our band achieving third place.  Thank you to all staff who were involved in providing this great opportunity for our students to shine!  Well done to all who participated last week, we are all very proud of you!

5/6 Excursion

Our grade 5/6 classes went on an excursion this week to watch the production of
‘Once Upon a Time’ performed by Burnie High School.  I was able to chat to some students at the end of the day who all enjoyed the experience of watching the talented students on stage.  I was very proud to hear that our students’ behaviour was exceptional.

'Lets Get Talking'

Next week our school is hosting a session in LiL of the ‘Lets Get Talking’ initiative aimed at increasing the oral language skills of our young people in LiL and Kinder.  This is a 3 year initiative involving all the local Devonport government schools and the CFLC.  We would love you to come along and join our LiL session if you are free on Tuesday 9:00 -10:30 am.  Our speech and language consultant, Sarah, will be with us to chat with parents.

Planning for 2026

We are well on the way with our 2026 planning.  Class structures are being discussed and students placed into classes.  The feedback forms from families regarding friendships have been received and staff will review and consider these as part of our class constructions.  Part of the process in planning for 2026 is also to enol students into Kinder who are in our zoned area.  If you wish for your child to attend in 2026 and they are turning 5 next year, please make contact with the office asap to enrol with us.  Pre-Kinder sessions start in week 2 next term.

End of Term

As this will be the last newsletter of the term, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a restful break and a safe holiday period.  The 2025 school year is 3/4 over, just one term of 10 weeks to go until the end of the year!

Kind regards

Ms Nichole Todd
